The following article represents the horror silent filmography. Nosferatu (1922), The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari (1920), The Phantom Carriage (1921), Frankenstein (1910), The Hands of Orlac (1924), Haxan: Witchcraft Through the Ages (1922), are some of the movies that have stigmatized the history of cinema. Black and white photography, with elements of romance, fear, panic, and depression, and all of them wreathed in a gothic and dark cloak, has left the viewers with an indeterminable feeling.

Noone, who has watched films like these, will ever forget the essential german expressionism, a movement that was born during the First World War, thanks to the foreign films which were not allowed into Germany. As a result, the film industry was grown in Germany and many directors acquired glory and fame. Famous directors who are still in existance, becouse of their unique projects and works, are Fritz Lang, F.W. Murnau, Victor Sjöström, Robert Wiene, Benjamin Christensen and many many others.

Unfortunately, some of the films from this time are lost. However, plenty of them have been saved and some of them are available on youtube. Check the article below for more information.
